- Pilot shows Managed Smart Data platform increases data processing capacity by 400%
- Platform supports firms with gathering difficult to obtain data and processes it into a single, validated view with its innovative, AI technology
- Platform supports firms’ regulatory needs and helps them maintain a clear audit trail with its traceable data lineage functionality
London, September 2025: Raw Knowledge, the specialist data provider and data management firm under the Industrial Thought Ltd group of companies, today announces the launch of its Managed Smart Data (MSD) Platform, a data management solution for the wealth and investment management sector.
The platform extracts complex structured, semi-structured and unstructured data formats, such as harder-to-read PDFs and scanned documents, using Generative AI and large language models. It then enhances the quality and usability of the extracted data sources before blending it into a single source of truth.
In an internal pilot, Raw Knowledge has seen its data extraction times drop by 70% for one of its key propositions: the delivery of Excess Reportable Income (ERI) data to support investors in submitting accurate tax returns to HMRC.
The MSD Platform has been developed to support firms with processing and verifying difficult-to-reconcile data into a single, accurate and auditable source. For wealth managers or investment platforms, this might include fund, market, performance and client data, received in different formats and from disparate sources.
Dealing with complex and diverse data sources often involves costly and time-consuming manual reconciliation, which is difficult to scale, particularly for organisations using legacy data management systems. That’s why the MSD Platform has been designed using a low-code approach, meaning it can add new datasets quickly and integrate easily into firms’ existing tech stacks.
The platform is built on next generation, lakehouse architecture and employs innovative data lineage technology. This allows data to be stored in its original form and for any changes to the data to be recorded automatically, providing clients with a fully traceable and granular view of their data that can support their regulatory reporting or auditing needs.
The MSD Platform has been built in partnership with parent company Industrial Thought’s product development and tech innovation hub Thought Train.
Commenting on the launch, Preya Patel, Raw Knowledge Managing Director said: “By combining our 25 years’ of data management expertise with that of a forward-thinking tech innovation hub like Thought Train, we’ve created a solution that can deliver clean, organized and validated data. This gives businesses a foundation from which they can unlock valuable, data-driven insights and deliver better, more streamlined customer service.
“We know the challenges that firms are up against, grappling with outdated legacy systems that means data is siloed, mismanaged, or incomplete. This can have a detrimental impact on businesses and their customers. Through accurate, accessible and well-governed data, business can unlock real time decision making, future innovation and growth.”
Case Study: ERI Data Delivery
Since launch, Raw Knowledge has been a business focused on providing financial data to support UK tax reporting. Its award-winning Excess Reportable Income (ERI) data helps wealth managers and financial advisers tackle one of the most challenging issues affecting investors today: accurate tax reporting on offshore investments.
Raw Knowledge provides clients with a full dataset for tax reporting, including data that is often difficult to source. The extraction, ingestion and processing of this data had been a manual process for Raw Knowledge to date and, as a result, was time consuming and dependent on having a team with the highest level of data handling expertise.
Through the MSD Platform’s automated validation and blending processes, Raw Knowledge have achieved significantly faster data delivery times for clients, reducing their turnaround time from one full working day to just 30 minutes.
These efficiency gains have meant the data team could be redeployed to higher-value tasks such as client relationship management and product development, supporting a 50% reduction in resource costs and opening new revenue streams for the business.
The platform, which has been built using a low-code approach on metadata-driven lakehouse architecture, has also meant that datasets, even harder-to-read format such as PDFs and scanned documents, can be extracted and processed quickly and seamlessly.
The Raw Knowledge team have also benefited immensely from the platform’s comprehensive data lineage capabilities. For example, when a fund manager republished several years’ worth of ERI data to correct errors that had previously appeared in their reporting, the platform helped Raw Knowledge slash their time spent conducting impact analysis and correcting internal datasets. This process took less than a day, thanks to the MSD Platform, compared to the four weeks it would’ve taken prior to its adoption.
